Much to fans’ dismay, the popular actor will no longer return as ‘Superman.’
Henry Cavill has put his "Superman" cape away. He used his Instagram account to make the announcement about leaving the franchise.
He writes, "I just met with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it's horrible news, everyone. "I won't be coming back as Superman, after all. Although it's no longer my turn to don the cape, everything Superman stands for will always exist.
"The changing of the guard is something that happens," he continued. I honor that. James and Peter ought to create a universe. I send my best wishes and luck to them and everyone else participating with the new universe.

Only a few months have passed since Cavill first revealed his comeback as the superhero with a cape. This happened after he made an appearance in "Black Adam's" post-credit scene.
According to Deadline, the anticipated sequel would feature a fight between Dwayne Johnson's anti-hero and the Man of Steel.
In the video he shared online, Cavill explains why he waited until the weekend to broadcast it: "I wanted to give you a chance to watch Black Adam."
In Zack Snyder's 2013 film "Man of Steel," which brought in over $668 million worldwide, Cavill debuted in his Superman cape. In the Snyder-directed films "Justice League" and "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," he reprised the part.
From here, where does "Superman" go?
DC executives Peter Safran and James Gunn are continuing the franchise despite Cavill's departure.
The first of their planned projects is 'Superman,' which, despite exploring a previous period in Superman's existence, is not an origin story.
He hinted that he would collaborate with Cavill in the future as he came to a close.
In January 2023, Gunn and Safran will make their complete plans for the DC world public.
